Usenet.nl offline for several hours following DDoS attacks

30/06/2011

As our colleagues from Usenet-Deluxe have already reported, the access provider Usenet.nl has become the object of repeated so-called “Distributed Denial of Service (or DDoS for short)” over the past few days. The attacks meant that the company’s website was down for several hours on each of 23, 24 and 28 June. It was also impossible for customers to log in to their accounts during this time.

It remains to be seen whether the attacks are a sign of the increasingly strong competition within the lucrative Usenet market or whether Usenet.nl has merely become another victim of the groups of hackers which have been highly active recently.

Now measures have been put in place to ward off further attacks. In future, the security of the data on Usenet.nl will be maintained by using the same software deployed by the White House and Deutsche Bank.

This gives us good reason to hope that the Usenet.nl servers and customers will be spared any further downtimes and attacks of this nature!

Further information on Usenet.nl is available in our Provider Review.
